All That You Have To Know About CPEC

From the past year, we witnessed tremendous geopolitical moves in southern central Asia especially in Afghanistan also known as The Graveyard of empires. This graveyard still looks very difficult to rule by anyone because we saw one more empire, the USA, retreat from Afghanistan. Also, one more project that is getting its limelight from the geopolitical world is CPEC which stands for China Pakistan Economic Corridor. CPEC is a very fascinated topic not only for Pakistani news but also Chinese news. In this article, we go through what is CPEC all about, CPEC and Afghanistan links, Links between CPEC and India, is CPEC a game-changer for China and Pakistan? and CPEC is debt or equity?

 What Is CPEC

CPEC Is China Pakistan Economic Corridor which is a part of the One Belt One Road Project Initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping. In this CPEC project, both nations China and Pakistan agree to build a road that will connect Kashgar (A city in China which is situated in the northwest part of China) to Pakistan’s Gwadar port on the Arabian sea. This project aims to improve China Pakistan relations, develop peace in both countries, and give a strong push to Pakistan’s economy by developing infrastructure. So, these are unhidden or fair aims or mottos of this project but what about the hidden ambitious move which high flier China playing with this CPEC. China’s main motive is to create an alternative trade route for Shanghai because at present China has only one sea route which is in the south China sea. In the south China sea, China has more threat’s which include the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, and most importantly US Navy. Also, if CPEC is successful, the Chinese new import hub will be Gwadar port, which will decrease China's total time and energy. So, China invests in Pakistan for the Chinese sake of the economy.

 CPEC And Afghanistan

First, we shed some light on Afghanistan. As we know Afghanistan is a landlocked country it means Afghanistan has no access to the Arabian Sea. And the backbone of the modern economy is the ports of the country which perform a significant role in the import-export of the country. So, China and Pakistan decided to connect Kabul with Peshawar to link Afghanistan with CPEC. At present time Afghanistan has a road to access Gwadar port but the CPEC project will reduce 600km as compared to an existing route. This way Afghanistan will be an emerging economy from central Asia if the Taliban lose control over this country.

 CPEC And India

Now we are going to discuss a country that is a common enemy of China and Pakistan which is India. If CPEC will succeed some factors can Influence Indian regional importance in South Asia. As we know Gwadar port is a vital factor of the CPEC. It can change the economic situation of Pakistan, also China can access the Indian Ocean through Gwadar port and it leads to Chinese dominance in the water of the Indian Ocean which is a direct threat to India.

CPEC is a very optimistic project for China because this project is a crucial element of China’s long-term project One Belt One Road. This project can lead China to become a superpower and that’s why China dealing with a huge amount of investment in Pakistan. CPEC can stabilize Pakistan’s economy. So, Pakistan needs to strengthen diplomatic relations with China. CPEC can be a game-changer for both countries.
